Large format printing. Banners, wallpapers, vinyl. Made to order in colour or monochrome.

Large format printing refers to the printing of images on a variety of materials to produce bright and bold results on a large scale without compromising on the quality of your design.

Although this may seem like an unfamiliar term, most of us are exposed to large format printing daily in the form of billboards, advertisements on the sides of cars and buses, banners, and more.

How does it work?

Large format printing makes use of a press in order to lay down toner through multiple nozzles. The ink is applied directly onto your choice of material and is exposed to a rapid drying process which ensures the clarity of your print. Although this printing process is quick, the quality of your designs remain intact.

The general printing width of this method ranges from 600 mm to 11 metres – making your possibilities endless!

What can it be used for?

Large format printers offer a physically larger print than traditional solutions, which means that they offer various production sizes on many materials. The most popular types include,

  • Banner printing
From countertops to the side of your building, printing banners on a large scale can be just what your business or product needs to get noticed.

  • Contravision printing
Most popularly used on glass doors and windows, contravision printing is ideal to advertise whilst creating an extra layer of privacy for your business.

  • Canvas printing
Having important moments captured through photographs is a wonderful way to cherish them. An even better way is to admire these photos on canvas, which can be achieved through large format printing.

  • Wallpapers printing
Wallpaper, whether for personal or business use, is a popular form of large format printing as it can be utilised for business branding, advertising or decorative purposes.

  • Vinyl printing
Vinyl prints can be widely utilised on various surfaces for many purposes. With large format printing, using vinyl may be ideal to give your business branding that special touch.

No matter what your desire, large format printing is beneficial in several ways. Not only does it offer you a large display area, but it is also durable enough to withstand several elemental conditions.

It is also able to print on just about anything, provided it will fit through the carrier of the print. This includes materials such as:

  • Vinyl

  • Cloth

  • Glass

  • Wood

  • Metal

This printing solution is also an affordable choice as it facilitates reach to a large audience in one run. These large prints are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression on potential clients. From promotional to educational purposes, large format printing is the way to go.

Considerations for large format printing

When considering large format printing as your printing solution, there are a few factors to keep in mind to ensure that this form is suited to your needs. Where your final print will be viewed should be a key deciding factor, as it will determine how clear, and how much detail will be needed in your design.

A common misconception is that larger prints should have a higher printing resolution, which is not always the case for prints being viewed from afar. Three hundred dots per inch (dpi) is unnecessary for larger prints. Instead, one hundred dpi is better suited as the distanced visual is still of high quality whilst keeping the file size optimal for the printing process.
